Accused Harasser Asked: 'However What If I Am Madeleine?'
A female accused with harassing Kate McCann reportedly deposited her a phone message which questioned: "what if I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, twenty-four, who court testimony revealed has consistently asserted she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are standing trial indicted with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February 2025.
On Monday, Leicester Crown Court was told communication data and evidence retrieved from phones logged Ms Wandelt repeatedly requesting Madeleine's mother for a DNA test during that period.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a vacation in Portugal - is one of the most publicized investigations and remains unsolved.
'I Do Not Need Money'
A separate phone message, presented in court, recorded Ms Wandelt saying: "I realize I'm fat and unattractive like Madeleine had been, but I feel what I feel."
While another instance of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's recording stated: "Imagine there is a tiny probability that I am she? Then what? Is that not important for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I maintain a existence here in Poland, I only wish to understand," she added.
The jury was informed that by means of emails, mobile messages and communications, Ms Wandelt asked for a genetic test, transmitted youth pictures to her phone in a bid to show a resemblance to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and asserted to have "recollections" from a childhood with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, an intelligence analyst with law enforcement who collated the data, advised the court there "showed no any answers" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt additionally communicated with close associates of the McCanns, as per the phone records.
On October 9th, 2024, the father answered a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "the wrong phone."
That day Ms Wandelt left a recording on Mrs McCann's answerphone saying "I won't give up and I intend to demonstrate my claim."
The court learned the co-defendant established a relationship online with Ms Wandelt preceding assisting her on a trip to the McCanns' property in that area in December 2024.
Communication data showed Mrs Spragg had contacted using messaging service to Mrs McCann to state the media had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she should be treated respectfully in the period preceding the appearance to that location, Leicestershire, in that winter.
The court learned message exchanges between the two defendants, in November 2024, planning trying to get Mrs McCann's genetic material from her bins or from silverware at a restaurant.
"We need to take action," the co-defendant told Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the trip to their residence, Mrs Spragg dispatched a communication which said: "We find ourselves sitting outside the McCanns' house with our vehicle dark resembling investigators. I desired to accomplish this with Peter Andrew I didn't imagine I would be doing that with the McCanns."
