Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Claims Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete
The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the league office.
The team did not mention the player by name in their statement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Instagram
The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, posted a set of images on social media that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. She did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles
Rice missed the first six games of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people hurt. He was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
Statistically, Rice concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
