'Enduring a Horrific Ordeal': Relatives of Missing Teens Desperately Seek Answers After Ski Resort Blaze
The relatives of teenagers lost after a devastating inferno at a establishment in a Switzerland's ski resort are confronting an agonising wait for official news and requesting any details about their family members via social media.
The inferno ripped through the Le Constellation bar in Cans-Montana, located in the mountains of the Valais region, in the middle of the night of the first day of the year. Confirmed images reveal the roof structure igniting as bottles with fireworks are raised in celebration.
Officials have stated that it could take days if not weeks to formally name the victims of the fire, which resulted in the death of four dozen individuals and hurt another 119. A spokesperson noted on the latest update that 113 of the those hurt have been accounted for, with work still underway to identify the remaining few.
In the waiting period, relatives have been taking to social media to request clues about their friends who were present at the venue that evening.
Desperate Searches for the Missing
The location of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are still unconfirmed, according to an heartfelt request from his family.
The resident of a town near Lausanne, told a local newspaper that she had gone back to Lausanne to see if he was in the hospital, while his other parent did the same in Bern, but was unsuccessful.
"I'm living a nightmare, an ordeal. Either I find my son in the morgue, or I find him in critical condition. It's terrible," she told the paper.
She added that some of his peers had been found with injuries covering nearly half their bodies. "There are no words; they endured a terrifying ordeal."
The Italy's government has confirmed that a number of of its nationals are still unaccounted for.
One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage promising athlete, who hailed from Italy but now residing in Dubai.
The Italian Golf Federation has released a tribute that he is dead, without mentioning the tragedy, honoring a "young athlete who embodied dedication and authentic values."
His parent, is quoted as saying that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around midnight. An representative has clarified that a formal confirmation of his death is awaited.
Other Cases
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is also among the missing. His mother explained that he had been on holiday but had gone out with friends and ended up at the bar.
"Someone with him told me they ran away after the fire started and that he had his phone with him, but then at a certain point he they were separated," she explained, adding he had been wearing a identifiable piece of jewelry.
One of his educators commented, "He was known for his good nature and positive demeanor, combined with great responsibility. Every time offer to get me a coffee."
Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Swiss and Greek nationality but lives full-time in the country, was also at the bar on New Year's Eve, according to sources.
Her brother has posted an appeal on social media, saying the relatives has had "no news" regarding the teenager or the group she was with, who are also reported missing.
Officials from her country of origin say they are actively engaged with the situation.
